Well, not really. The weather's terrible, I mean, it's literally identical to that in Cape Town at the moment, which is the exact opposite reason for coming here! So, we've pretty much been sitting at home eating (as you've gathered by now a vital part of traditional life), playing board games and table tennis, generally not going outside if we can avoid it. Which is a great pity, because there is so much to see and do...
Guess what kind of of a bombshell got dropped on me today!? We're going to Prague, tomorrow at 4am by road!!! What? Why do my parents never tell me about these things!?!?!?!?!?!?! This is madness, I'm trying to settle down and raise a family here, and instead I am going to Prague! Looking forward to it though, should be really fun.
Thanks fans, especially Lisa, you've managed to force me back onto my computer again! Although, of course, I'm still totally cool with blogging, I'm just scared of running out of subject matter. Well, you've all met my family, all you need now are some pictures. Which isn't ideal, as all there is to see at the moment is rain, ie the generic London/Cape Town photograph.
At the moment, I pass the time by (amongst other things) reading Asimov's stories... I've got a lovely volume of them, and I'm almost a third of the way through. Some of them are really legendary, I love Profession and Spell My Name With An S... They're all really good sci-fi stories with a very alternative take on society and the universe. I would highly recommend these to anyone who doesn't feel like they have a place in the universe. They'll make you even more uincertain :D
I've actually tried writing my own sci-fi short stories, but I'm a bit stuck for plots, you could say "waiting for inspiration"! I have this idea about a plot by the Americans to try and take over Russia, but they fail to do it because their bio-weapon is hidden in tomato ketchup, which the Russians don't eat with their traditional food! Well, I think it's a tad ironic... It's actually inspired by the debate we had as to whether to eat a highly traditional dish with ketchup or not... turns out it tasted much better with it!
Talking of sci-fi, I am being haunted by Super-Heavy Warhammer tanks... I want one! Screw the fact that they're pieces of plastic, they look. Freaking. Awesome!! Pity that for my collection it is not only expensive and unnecessary, but right now it is tactically redundant! This hobby is causing me headaches, but I still love it!
If you feel like learning something new, check out the International Marxist Tendency website (discovered by Andrew)... I love it, I wonder how many of you readers will! Well, I like to think of myself as a socialist, so it probably alludes to me more than it does to you. It's quite a (dare I say) funny website to read through, check out their "About Us" section. Don't worry guys, I'm not an extremist like that!
Talking of ante-capitalist literature, I'm going to ask our librarian if I can request a copy of Das Kapitall, by Karl Marx (!). I'll say something like, "Ma'am, my grandfather has the original and the Polish version, but it's a difficult text and I don't want to misinterpret anything."!! Let's see the look on her face... This is quite possibly the most anti-capitalist-mindset piece of literature ever! Well, as far as I know at any rate...
I have ordered lots of new fencing equipment too, and it should be arriving soon... I'm so excited (especially seeing as I'm not the one paying for it!)
Hah Ismail, no ripperness in here that I know of! :D
