(with apologies)
I have finally found the secret to life: MAN UP AND ASK HER OUT!!! Worked for me, shot Broseph. Well, I guess this means I can no longer be ripped into about being the epitome of bachelor-ness. Unfortunately, that's all you now, Guy :D And Ismail too actually, hehe...
Wow, I'm actually shocked at the amount of stalker friends I have... Change anything to do with relationships on Facebook and there are instantly like 50 bil likes and comments. The only thing missing is Evers being his usual self. More about overblowing relationships later, when I feel like hating on y'all fake high-school girlfriends who hang around on bbm all the freaking time. Like, seriously, I wndr if thy spk lyk ths al de tym? :D Poor suckers! Genuine heart-to-heart is the best thing EVAR!
But because you probably don't want to read a whole post about how awesome my girlfriend is (and well awesome she is indeed), I want to find something more, shall we say, effective to talk about.
Not happening. My blogging madskillz have not advanced to that point yet. But I don't want to have an entire post screaming out things to the world in general, so I have to write SOMETHING...
Well, okay, I'll write about bunnies... Meh, love indeed pacifies the mind completely... Devoid of all thought, I wallow in the pleasure of my dreams...
Okay, I'll stop now, before this blog becomes a giant emo rant.
In other news today, my cap is running out, so as soon as this post is done I am DOWNLOADING! Things such as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and the soundtrack to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Also Johnny Cash. And updates for the mac. And a whole load of other crap. Torrentz is the way to go!
Once again, I have found myself lacking in having done as many constructive things as I would have liked to have done. Well, I did practice on the piano and drums a decent amount, I did go to rehearsals, and I also did some scout admin. I was also young and in love; let me tell you, it's the best feeling evar <3
And most definitely constructive.
This is a blog about sarcasm, society, and the criticism of those around me. I'll do my best to keep you interested...

It's almost time
...many things shall be happening soon, one of which is Pops. Come watch, it will be freaking epic. Other things are also on the brink of happening ;)
Wowzers, I had to stay behind another hour after practice and give our Director of Music a 101 on packing drum kits into bags. Next year, I shall be 1st Percussion, though, so it's all worth it in the end!
Bleh, today I woke up at like 11, SOMEBODY kept me up late last night :D (don't worry, I did sleep well though!) Eish, all this newfangled technological jazz is playing havoc with my circadian rhythms, really not cool. But I'm not complaining outright... I'm all for new technological developments. So long as they cost less than $21.99 month (including p&p)!
Not much happening in my life right now, just the good ol' regulars: music, Dakka, webcomics, love, music, fencing, music... etc.
God, I thought of something really interesting to say in my blog this morning, but I forgot! Damn! All I know is that we're rehearsing at the City Hall tomoz.Lus, it's cutting down available time w/
Well, let's go back to the old adage, what's actually going on in my head right now? That should make for interesting blog posting, only I just realized it's all music, Dakka, webcomics, love, music, fencing, moar music, etc. Same old, same old.
Wait until I get out of this rut, then I'll be writing socialist manifestos. But don't get any ideas, there's no way I am even buying a gun.

Insert Rebecca Black title here
Apparently she's recorded another song. God, there's no way I'm listening to it.
Today is my favourite day of the week, and I rate enough of you should guess why. Anyways, we finally finally finally had a SABRE COMPETITION, which was super-duper exciting, with lots of emotions and screaming and shouting. I ended up ranked 2nd, we'll do the DE next week... Nevermind the fact that it took me a while to get back into it; at our club, it doesn't matter who comes where, what matters is the awesomeness had during the bouts. I love this sport!
Today, we did the service-position voting. I really really hope I don't get stuck as armourer AGAIN! I've done it for almost three years now, I think I need a break. Maybe captaincy should be good ;)
Scouts tonight was also cool... Mini-golf across the inside and outside of the hall, craziest holes evar! I'm quite bleak, I didn't manage to get the highest score! Despite taking literally 20 tries at like 4 or 5 basic holes. Someone managed to do WORSE than me, and that's an achievement any mini-golfing day...
Anyway, had the greatest conversation today, with James who'd popped over to pick up Andrew.
James - Ah Sam, howzit
Sam - All right
James - Are you, you know, in this whole vibe?
Okes run around on the hall roof trying to putt golf balls into McDonald's cups
Sam - Well, I'm a bit above that
James - Oh okay
Sam - But yes, I'm a Scout, if that's what you mean...
So, later James took to following one of the flights around as they were whacking balls everywhere.
James - Oh my god, this is literally the most inefficient way of getting this ball across
Sam - Enjoying yourself?
James - Immensely. These guys are all crazy!
Well, I can't blame him. The little scouts are freaking perma-high on sugar. I find other people's perception of scouts pretty funny, especially when they see crazy little guys running around screaming. But seriously, snior scouting is the most epic thing evar!
I remember the stories my dad used to tell me, about when his troop got dumped out in the mountains and picked up 9 days later... They went around stealing chickens from the nearby farms and stuff, so they could kill and eat them... If only we did that! Daymn, ur scouting seems so tame compared to that, especially seeing as this would be in the middle of winter with snow and everything!

Free time. Or the definitive lack of.
^As in the title.
However, I did find/do very very cool things today, such as:
== Crack 2k views!!!!
== Have the longest phone conversation of my life (at least I wasn't paying for it ;))
== Play yet more music
== Get some piano practice in, and thus become ever-so-slightly more prepared for my upcoming exam
== Find out that you can now walk around the OUTSIDE the CN tower. This has been instantly added to my exchange to-do list. MUST DO!!
In fact, I'm going to start checking out Yahoo! news headlines more often, because some of the craziest stuff comes up there... Just skimming through,
== That Norwegian dude is apparently a Templar Knight
== An entire South Dakota town is up for sale! (what)
== Gym-free ways to burn calories... Tiger Woods' backyard... what not to put in your wallet... Kat von D's "tattoo blunder"... etc. etc. And that's not even the dedicated gossip section. Who is this Kat person anyway?
== Chloe, I wanted to find a cute animal video, but there weren't any. :(
Wowzers, how can people stand having news of the world being infiltrated by pop stars? Surely! When I see headlines on Yahoo!, I cringe every time, because celebrity news is given just as much if not more emphasis than actual news of the world. Although I guess if I'm looking for sensible headlines, Yahoo! is not the place to go....
On a slightly different note, Duncan, my keen gamer friend, who also has a blog, has written yet another post, this time a lengthy explanation of his view on benefits of computer gaming. If you like reading about more than just "lol greatest CoD killstreak ever w00t", but still want to read about CoD, this is for you. Although Duncan assures me there is no CoD in the latest post.
Otherwise, I'm still waiting for Guy to update his.
Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Lots of fencing to be done! The inter-house championships are coming up soon (read, as soon as I fix the epèes), and we (Mallett) are determined to see it through. The Ogilvie representation consists of the U17 national champion, the U20 national champion, and the club vice-captain. Mallett has the Armourer, an ex-fencer, and an Asian wonderchild... It will be very very close this year, I can tell :D
I have actually, believe it or not, almost finished learning the notes for my final piano piece. I actually feel a definite sense of accomplishment... I find it really depressing when people don't take their music seriously though, it's honestly one of the greatest opportunities ever. I can understand if you were forced into violin by your parents (brillo Eddie Izzard vid!) but otherwise, if you are playing an instrument or dare I say doing music as a matric subject, you might as well enjoy it. I find that there are indeed many times when I actually have to force myself to rpactice, but most of the time it's actually enjoyable these days.
I used to be like that; I used to only really practice when I had to, and didn't particularly enjoy the learning process of playing the damn piano. Now, recently, I have transitioned to "being awesome instead"... I play pieces for fun, even go into all the trouble of learning more difficult pieces so I can impress chicks/other musically illiterate people. I hardly ever have to actually force myself to practice these days.
This also means that I'll get picked for the orchestra a lot, I can't yet decide whether it's a good or bad thing. When the teachers look at the bunch of average percussionists, they see me full of keenness and spirit and general co-operative functionality and say, my, what an ideal specimen, nevermind the fact that he's not as good as the rest! Although I'm not half bad, started jazz drumming on Wed and I think I might not turn back.
Well, what do you know, I turned out quite a decent music politics rant. See how much of my life is music these days?
I also quit hockey, partly because I was unceremoniously kicked off the team as a direct consequence of being a competitive fencer. Ah well. Not like I was A team or anything.

REPRISE YAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY, at last I have been given a morning off! (This is after today, hauling timpanies around since 7am. Literally the earliest I have ever been at school. Wait, not counting house runs. LUUUUUUUUS!)
So, this means that tomorrow I can at last sleep in until like quarter to, as opposed to having to wake up at blimming quarter past. It's not much, but it is worth it. Definitely.
I am so very very crazy at the moment, it's literally the lack of basic human needs taking its toll. Got home today after fencing (kudos Rob) at 21:30 (kudos Guy) and didn't do homework (kudos Chloez), just kinda lamented about the time I need to spend playing piano (kudos Joe) and updating my blog (:hacking cough: Duncan. and Guy actually as well).
Today, we had a massive rehearsal in front of the entire school, and everyone lolled at my major vibration-spreading. Listen, it's a genuine percussion technique! Who's the percussionist here, you or me? :D Nevertheless, the National Anthem is still an insane piece, and I really really need some time to practice it beforehand. Don't want to mess up really badly. Not that I messed up today :)
So, I just realized:
Pops is 6 days away
My piano exam is 26 days away
Exchange is 39 days away
My life is flashing before my eyes, except that, unlike in the case of a certainly-dead-person, it's going forward in time. I have no time (love it, always makes me laugh!). Life is such a mission!
Also,
FRIDAY is 2 days away
Sunday is 4 days away
By extension, yesterday was (believe it or not, drumroll) Tuesday.

The Week Drags On...
And it's only Tuesday. Daymn. This is going to be the longest week of my life, for more reasons than one. Just had the most stressed out 3 hours this morning, I hate it when gMail refuses to load on the school internetz. Stress stress stress, and all because of girls, and a little bit of Pops, but mostly girls actually.
Well, I finally decided to read my report card from last term (I think), and wow, it's actually quite a laugh! I don't want to get into trouble or anything, and I don't want to get a bad report next time, so I'm not going to do any "quote:rip" kinda stuff. I will say it's rather pleasing, and rather funny to see what teachers write about you. In fact, it's good to know that I still have at least a bit of notoriety around the faculty, if you can call it that ;)
Life is awesome, I can't believe many of my friends are stressèd and bleak and generally very anti-thingy. Okes must get over their suicidal tendencies, that's what you have boy/girl/friends for! I always wonder why people commit suicide, it seems very silly for me. How can you possibly reach a stage where life cannot get any better? Surely the only person with a legit argument like that is like Bill G or something... Okay, I can understand bleak outlooks on life, I'm sorry if I've offended depressed people, but I (as generally a very jolly person) have a rather blunt view on this whole "outlook" thing. Whatever, man.
Bleh, I cannot belieeeeeve I have to be at school at pretty much 7 am tomorrow. This is becoming a regular thing, I sincerely hope it stops after Pops. Only 8 days left, then it's all over! I am sooo looking forward to it :)

Aw yeah City Hall yeah
So, today we (read I) ended up at school for 8 hours, and at the City Hall for another 6. Thus, 14 hours after waking up today, here I am writing this post. My maths is amazing, I know... Given that Guy is commenting on it before it's even up (since he is kind of sitting next to me), I'll probably end up making stupid maths mistakes. Never, ever, copy maths homework off Guy.
Feeling superior to professional musicians after they cannot look at the conductor, multiple times. However,HELP THIS IS SAMS BROTHER GET ME OUT OF HERE NOW respect to being able to pick up your given instrument, and play a piece that we have spent the last like 3 months on. I wish I could sight-read like that... I guess it all comes with time. And practice. Bleh :) Eventually I'm going to have to get back to piano... But for now, I'm liking time alone (and avec certain people too ;) )
Wait, so the City Hall is actually quite an anticlimax... I expected it to be way bigger, especially from the photo hanging up in the music school. I can't believe it only seats like 600 people. And all the tickets are gone already!!
I really love playing in the orchestra, it's so great. If there's one thing I could improve on though, it would be general kit versatility. That way, you can impress absolutely everyone, and not just fans of rock. In fact, you can impress bossa novans, whoever the hell they are.
So, the good news is my week ahead is looking great... No school necessary, nor is it asked for. Lots of music, playing big drums and loud bells. AAAAND time alone with special people. Well, okay, Guy doesn't like being called "a special person", but you know what I mean ;)
Okay, going to eat pancakes. I love food.

The Fast Lane
As someone once famously said on a demotivational poster, The Fast Lane. I am living in It.
Actually, I just made that up,but I certainly feel like it now. May or may not have anything to do with where I ended up tonight... Wish I could've stayed longer! xox
(I swear, Joe)
Anyways, I have done no homework as of yet (although I'll probably chicken out and do some) and I have to write this post before my mum literally rips the internet thing out the wall and throws it away (although she wouldn't actually do that coz she needs to heck her email and my blog at least twice a day).
Well, this post is actually pretty short because I kinda forgot about it. All I'm saying thus far, is that the Pops schedule is horrible. Thus, I am spending the ENTIRETY of tomorrow either a) at school or b) at the City Hall playing all manner of percussion but mostly timpani.
So, until tomorrow...
See what Pops does to you?

meh
(WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS STRONG OPINIONS. I DON'T CARE IF YOU GET EASILY OFFENDED, READ IT ANYWAY)
Okay, let's sum up what happened to the rest of the world while I was away doing stuff (ie fencing and Pops) because I'm sure I'm boring you with how my life is going. For those who want to know, I'm fine, just don't stop me now because I'm in one of my "I HATE THE WORLD" moods. Oh yeah, and check out my Warhammer blog, posted another post on there today, who knows, there might be more coming up.
1) (and yes, they will be numbered so we can see exactly how many there are) Norway. What. The. Dump!? Okay, seriously, this is why I don't like this whole idea of Youth Camps. Or, for that matter, Religious Fundamentalists. Okay, seriously, they take everything too far. Look at all the world's biggest sort of incidents that make us think how crappy this world is. How many of them have been based in people taking religion too far? Most, if not all. The Holocaust. 9/11. The KKK. And now this. Great. Right-wingers as well. Hate 'em all... Okes cannot just chill and live, they have to freaking wreak havoc on other people. Please, suck it up if you don't like it, don't enforce things on other people by killing them. Mathematically, you'll have less converts so it's counter-productive anyway.
Oh yeah, Norway was of course orchestrated by Al-Quaeda. Waited half a year for the backlash, now it's finally here. Just because the oke had no connections to terrorist groups and was anti-Muslim does in no way mean he was not working for them. Hell, if it's about Osama bin Laden's legacy, I rate A-Q could employ people to do this sort of thing without lifting a finger, and they won't even know who they're working for. I mean, really. Information in this line of work is given on a need-to-know basis. He's going to give the police a "false" trail, and then the real attacks will start, just you wait. And the best thing is, he doesn't even know he's doing it. Beauty beauty beauty.
Hell, I'm starting to sound like Joe... Nevermind, I got this far, and I'm in a good mood.
2) Amy Winehouse (w/ apologies to all the people who take middle ground). Chris, you made my day, "nobody cares about amy winehouse"[sic]. Okay, I positively hate it when people like this die, because then everyone goes, oh what a shame, and pretends they were, like, a model citizen or something. Seriously, you got yourself into this drugs and alcohol mess, your problem if it ends you. I hate it when famous people kill themselves with drugs, it's like they've got nothing better to do with their lives. Also, it means that I have to hang around with this sort of perception that this is a good thing to do, and in addition to this bothering out of pure societal concern, it means I can't breathe in chapel because of the smoke radiating off the matrics. Luckily I can't smell drugs, coz I would literally collapse. Fags are bad enough.
Who do these pop stars think they are? God? Because they certainly aren't. You CAN'T do anything you want, you don't have infinite moneyz, and you are not immune to the adverse effects of drugs. God. In fact, I would carry on at this point about how movie stars/singers/Hollywood people in general are just crap in every aspect of life from fashion sense to fashion sense to sensationalism, but that's for another time. For now, rest assured that I cringe and scream every time I see a (heavily made-up) star. And that's just the men. I mean, the women are just genuinely ugly. All of them. Love chicks back at home xoxox!
Can't believe I just wrote that.
3) Spiders under this girl's skin. I'm not even linking it, I'm not clicking that link. What is going on with these freaking videos circulating Facebook? Why? What depraved lunatic sits at home sending these out? What the dump? And I mean, it's not even like a lolcat video or something genuinely humorous or cool, such as the ones Josh always posts up... AAARGH!! I am literally this close to chundering everywar... you are wasting my cap, my newsfeed space, and (woe betide I may click on one of these) the un-virusness state of my computer/freedom from spambots/adbots/trollz/the like. For shame!
Seriously now, this gets so irritating. I don't mind you people watching it, don;t get me wrong, watch whatever crap you like, but I seriously have an issue with naiveness to "omg this is so insane you must check out this video!". It's how credit card numbers get lost.
4) Blank now, but I love writing like this. Final proofread on my post to see if it's not un-criticizing enough, and then it's up.
I can do this more often if you want me to, just let me know. All I know is that it certainly felt good to write. Criticizing the crap out of everyone: it's my civic duty!
Can't believe Blogger won't let me set my location as "Outer Space".
It's FRIDAY!!
Yep, it's FRIDAY. And that means it was FENCING DAY!!!! I love it, I quite literally spend my entire week, every week, looking forward to fencing on FRIDAY!! Most epic practice ever, >4 hours of pure fencing.
So, that's pretty much what happened today. I tend to forget everything else before that, including most of class. I do remember (rather vaguely) that I tried to buy my ac jersey only to find there were none in stock (except for XS, but there is no way I'm squeezing into that!), so I have to wait another two weeks! :( Major bleakness.
Scouts today was pretty cool, everyone's busy preparing for Gordon's (this massive camping competition) that's happening this weekend, which I can't go to because of Pops... I managed to get a (warm) raw egg broken over my head, and now I'm chilling in bed with the left side of my face on fire because I had to wash it off with ice water and now my ear hurts... ow.
Raucus times were had before debating too, actually. Omegle can be a source of much amusement if used correctly, such as videochatting with 7 people crowded around the screen waving. This is the kind of stuff other people expect debaters to do in their free time. Well, quote Andrew, "we do actually do it". To be expected though, I guess.
Another thing that I want to get down is my great idea for this Manifesto of sorts. I'd really like to get my own political ideas on paper, and they also have the added advantage of, when read by others, inspiration, pondering, philosophy, and (sometimes) laffs.
Gotta get down on Friday... It's the weekend baby!!

The Jigsaw of Life
Okay, really weird emo-like post title, I know... I just kind of decided to be philosophical about this, like those climbers you see on the movies. Guy will turn into one, mark my words :D In fact, we need to make a movie... Go to Landudno the one time, and just film Guy (and Andy and myself) making weird elephant noises, and some close-up shots of tiny cracks in the rock which we somehow manage to hold on to. Yes, Dosage v0.5!!!!!!!
Anyway, I'm back into the swing of things... school time so 1 post a day! Apologies for the last post's spelling mistakes, I managed to switch "Insert" on a big Mac keyboard in the Soundhouse, and couldn't switch it off, so I just had to type and ignore the type-oes.
I actually thought I'd do some philosophizing because I ended up having a free evening today... Which is weird, I know. Anyways, I ended up thinking a lot about life (actually I was chowing major food while feeling really insecure), but hence the philosophization (which technically isn't even a real word). I had a lank chilled day at school, starting with a Popshearsal at like 3am, and then lessons, more Popshearsals, hockey practice, and then a chill. Wow, I never get this kinda thing. I was honestly like, "what, mum, are you SURE I don't have anything to do this evening?". You know, me, I'm the kind of person that says, ah, a bit of free time, let me fill it up by DOING SOMETHING!!!!!
So, what kind of outlook do I end up having on life? Well, I get severely insecure if I spend more than 5 seconds without a definite purpose to my current occupation. I'm sure some of you may be like that (Chloe :D), so I know you at least partially share my sentiments.
So, as always, this links up to my sort of New Frontier Socialist Manifesto, or whatever I'm actually going to call it. Maybe just the New Era Socialist Manifesto. That's pretty catchy, I like it ;). Well, anyway, I wanted to ramble on about man-hours/wastage of man-hours/productivity and statistical analyses, but I guess that'll have to wait. Oooh, how I want to write a complete socialist economic policy layout... I promise it is going on this blog.
So anyway, I'm going to go a bit mystic now, and make bold statements such as "your life will never be complete until your heart's desires are fulfilled. Even then, it might not be complete, but in that case you're just screwed!". You can quote me on that, it's one of my multiple takes on life.
Wait, so have I reached my point yet? Probably not, sorry.
basically, and I do not in any way want to hate on anyone here, I find that it's a bit silly just to waste time doing "sweet" nothing. Point of contestion, I know, but I have a very definite view on this. If there's an opportunity out there, I go grab it, and I genuinely cannot help feeling excited and eager about it either. Hence, the lack of a television set in my house. Internet surfing is constructive, unless you're playing singleplayer online flash games, in which case, it's pretty sad. Do something with your life! Start a blog, for chunder's sake!
Physical exercise is a major no-no, and I witnessed this first-hand when visiting Poland. A first-world-city-person's view of a "day out" is braaing in the backyard with some friends. If they're the hectic outdoorsy type, they might drive to the beach, park their car in the sand, pump the music, and get out the sunglasses, beach towels, umbrellas, factor 20 billion sunblock, and do anything they can do not be in contact with nature. Who can blame them? They might get stung by a bee or something....
Being brought up in Africa is the most kick-ass thing ever! Love the fact that I can walk barefoot through grass without suffering any ill effects, swim across a lake without drowning due to cramps (or getting eaten by seaweed), and/or go mountain biking without a helmet, shinpads, kneepads, spine protectors, glasses, goggles, special riding gear, etc. etc. without falling off. Because then I might cut my leg open and have to go to hospital. Which would be a cost.
Okay, you can get what point I'm trying to reach here. African babies (or 5 year-olds) are way more resilient than those raised in first-world environments, ie the Big City. Purely because, if you want to build up resistance, you allow, and even encourage, exposure.
What the hell does this have to do with time-filling?
I actually haven't the faintest. This is what happens when you ramble on and on about life!!!
I did warn you weird stuff could come out!

I did say I'll be Bach
Actually, that was a terrible pun. Sorry. At least it's not as bad as this one.
Anyway, I am bach from the holidays, ready to go. I accept no responsibility for okes who may be feeling bleak due to the fact that they had to go to school yesterday. Tough cheese. At least you don't have surprises like this one pulled on you:
Sam switches on phone at 23:30 last night
New message from Guy!
"oi sam where r u u got ur academic jerzy"
Sam replies: "no feth off dude, you cant fool me that easily"
To which: "okay fine ill keep the jerzy then hehe!"
Well, it turns out I did get it. Dammit Guy. And turns out they'll only give it to me at Friday's assembly, so I have a bit of a wait. :( meh
Ah, it's good to be back, I love seeing all my friends again after such a long time away! Especially great to be back in maths class, raucus as always, once again did no work. Dammit Guy. And Sevi...
So, I thought I might as well do something useful and rview all the movies that I managed to watch during my multiple 36-hour ordeals, there and back. And from now on, every day as usual, this shall be the case. Whatever is going through my head, even if it is just the movies I watched, is going on here. Although let's be honest, it's Pops Madness, so by tomorrow I'll be a gibbering wreck.
So, my movie lineup (in no particular order):
Battle: Los Angeles
Two words: Fudge. Yeah. This is a great movie for all fans of apocalypse, war, big guns, "band of heroes", and Tau and 'nid players. The cast is pretty good despite being for the most part nobodies, and manage to do a stirling job in the ultimate battle for Los Angeles against aliens. Non-stop action, with lots of things to shoot wherever you turn! A must watch if you like Black Hawk Down and Sci-Fi. I feel it's kind of meh when the characters get killed off one by one in various different ways, but it doesn't stop the movie from being awesome. Hell, there's no such thing as an unnecessary death. Unless you're watching the Saw, in which case every death is unnecessary :D
UnKnown
What can I say, it's got Liam Neeson in it. Which means that, as usual, a greater part of the movie is spent showing him pwning various bad guys. The storyline is really good as well, keeps you in absolute suspense as Liam attempts to find out who's actually stolen his identity. Very unpredictable, except for the very end (SPOILER: the good guys win!). Berlin provides a stunning backdrop for this awesome action thriller.
Tron: Legacy
I felt that it was very well done in terms of CGI effects and all, and the story was awesome too. It's not perfect because I was provided with so many opportunities to say "Aha! reference, that's reasonably subtle but of course I picked it up!!" Hell, lots of fun to watch, it's good to know that riding a motorbike might save your life sometime! I love the whole concept they've got of the whole "Matrix-like alternate reality" vibe.
True Grit
Yes, the original. Yes, with John Wayne himself. Except for the fact that the heroine looks like Justin Bieber (what. the. dump.), it's a really awesome Western. But don't trust me on that, I don't have much to compare it with. Still, it's a classic plot, classic locations, and of course classic John Wayne quotes. "She reminds me of me!" have to get a list of those... Super arrogant, super must-haves! If you like old movies, this is a must.
Rango
Okay, it was pretty cool, lots of laughs. Watched it as a kind of, you know, will be fun. And it was, damn straight this is one of the best animated movies I've seen. In fact, the second-best, after Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. They never get old, these animated ones.
The King's Speech
Almost forgot this one, it was very good but I expect the climax to be more dramatic. I think he should've spoken to 10 billion people live, and make them start cheering like Hitler. It was very cool to watch though, had it's funny moments, like when they start swearing in between pauses... Legend. At least not all of us find public speaking difficult ;) Joe
Hitler considered, I remember we once spent an entire History lesson discussing the merits of Hitler's speaking style. Well, you know, the man had passion!
All I have to say to y'all readers for now is: enjoy being back at school. It IS the best time of your life!
I sound so old.
I'm only 16.

Still, it's farewell
So, masses, my holiday is almost at an end, but here are some pictures which you have so dearly been awaiting. Not much has been going on (that would be interesting to the general public anyway) except for holiday/family stuff. I could put up a video of me and my brother playing ping-pong for about two hours straight, but nothing actually happens except for me winning like a boss. Also, it was my great-grandmother's 91st birthday yesterday, which was an awesome occasion for me to brush up on piano skills and eat my heart out from a bucket of KFC! Okes got well warmed up...
I've also spent a lot of time hanging about on Dakka, checking out cool paintjobs such as this Fire Prism (check out the paintjob. This model is 15 or so cm long!), and Lord of Tzeentch. Damn, I want to paint like that! Check out the rest of the Gallery, there are some really really insane 'jobs there. As soon as I get back and have a decent army list, I WILL start painting!
Apologies to everyone who hasn't been having a holiday, and was eagerly awaiting more posts. Didn't really happen, I was kinda busy. I miss Cape Town, and my friends, and my schoolz, and even (dare I say) the girls...
#slap. So, here are some snapshots from the holidays. They're not amazing, but I couldn't find very many which my brother actually took keeping in mind that they were going on my blog. Most of the photos I have are of random, still-life objects close up.
Me looking boss on a route. We didn't bring any 'draws, okay, Guy!
Luk how hooj that dog iz! This is Theodore. He belongs to my uncle and is very very hairy. He is also the size of a car.
There used to be a castle here. Back in like the 16th century... Climbing with a backdrop!
Other than this exploring we've been doing, I've been riding bikes, seeing yet more relatives, eating good food, you know, the usual things. I also listened to "The Final Countdown" about 200 times while writing this, hence the title of the post. I've almost cracked it on piano, the chords are just giving me trouble on the left hand. I'll get Joe to help me, then I will finally be able to play a song that everyone knows. Other than Fur Elise ;)
Talking of songs and bands, Ross has a badn, this is their Facebook page. Hopefully our band (that's you, The Definitive Platypus Compedium!) can get off the ground as soon as Guy agrees the name is awesome. And we learn more than one song :D
Only three days left of this holiday, then it's time for Pops madness! To quote Mr Wrensch, "You have no life during Pops time". I think he's right. I don't think that whoever drew up the reherseal schedule took classes into account, let along basic human needs like eating or sleeping!
I don't know. Maybe Dubai (again) will be fun. At least I'll get to chow some Burger King again!

Prague and other things
Well, that is certainly a disappointment... turns out the camera cannot plug into this damn computer (still w/ Polish spellcheck incidentally), and my grandfather doesn't have wireless... So I think we'll have to give more photos of Prague a miss this time, although several were quite funny. Ah well.
Okay, let's get the fun stuff done. Thanks Duncan for giving me airtime in your blog; for those of you who don't know, Duncan is this avid gamer (who has recently discovered 40k) who runs a mostly video-game-politics-related blog that is really cool if you're into that sorta thing. Also, Andrew (haha now you're forced to update again! #mischievousgrin) has a political-satire blog, which is (IMHO) very well done. These guys can really cater if you want to read about this stuff, I highly recommend both because I happen to like that sort of thing. Marx-wise, if these guys are innovative thought, I am religion. (Go on, try figure it out!)
Don't forget to check out my personal favourite webcomics, PHD and Wondermark. I wish I could make one of these...
But I just don't have the temperament. And besides, only Guy and Ismail would get the jokes. And only Guy would laugh :D
Oh yeah, and thanks for the support, Lisa. (and all you others too actually!)... Although whoever likes the pictures of me (mmm, sneaky suspicion, I have) will be sorely disappointed in today's post for reasons I have already explained.
At last, backlinks are out the way. So, it's been a long time since I wanted to rant like this on my blog, and I finally have the chance to. I apologize if this is a bit late, but if anything it's had a few days' thinking behind it.
Okay, don't get me wrong. Prague is a beutiful city, especially in its architecture, most of which is Baroque or slightly later, just renewed. It really is a wondrous sight to behold, seeing it all from above standing on church towers and all from below standing in the narrow streets. Okay, so far so good, if you're an unsuspecting tourist that is (enter me :D)!
They have the entire tourist thing all wrong. Yes, they have lots of people coming to the place. Yes, they have lots of people buying souvenirs. Yes, they do have everything in 12 different languages (some of the mistranslations were pretty funny. Oh yeah ismail, "Cary Mary" ,means "hocus-pocus". I can only guess what the last word is!). They have all that, but what they don't have is enthusiasm. They don't have tourist-looker-afters who are engaging, exciting, and/or in love with their job. Make that they don't have anyone who is in love with their job... Everyone is just over it, and I don't know why. It certainly dampens the spirit of things.
The second thing they do which takes the fun out of being a tourist is the money they squeeze out of you. And it's not even the fact that the3 price is too high, they just have this idea that they can make you pay for EVERYTHING. Such as going to a public toilet (1 euro on average). Even when you have already paid admission to get into whatever touristy place you've managed to stumble into. Even for going to a freaking church, you have to pay around 15 euros. And they only let you come in and pray for free from 8 to 9:30; the rest of the time it's a tourist attraction. And if you buy a ticket to visit the WHOLE of Prague Castle, they will still charge you extra for the Bell Tower. What. The. Dump!?!?!?!
Final reason why the tourism is screwed up: everything is a replica. The story goes like this: when the communist regime came about back in the day, they destroyed everything that was anti/non-communist. Then, they got bleak and tried to restore everything and failed miserably. Next, the democratismism regime came about, and they managed to do the same thing. They destroyed everything that was communist (including the beautiful park celebrating the Czechoslovakia Pact), and then later got bleak and tried to rebuild it. Obviously, didn't work because they had destroyed everything. So, that's why the Castle Armoury is filled with replica swords from a movie set, etc, etc.
Conclusion: that's why Prague is such a messed-up touristy place. Never going there again.
On the other hand, now that my rant is over, I can write about jolly stuff, but still no pictures unfortunately.
A funny thing happened to us on the final night. As we were driving back (I managed to find a statue of Tycho Brahe and Jo Kepler and have my picture taken), wmy dad said that the car behind us had been following us all the way. Scary, especially seeing as you consider that we had gotten lost and ended up on the other side of town. It was a small silver Hyundai, with two chicks in it, so we were major freaked out. We pulled over, and they stopped a few streets ahead of us. So we hit the gas, turnbed left, turned right, and lost them. But boy, had it been tense. We couldn't postulate why they had been following us, or if they really had been following us at all, but it seemed to much of a coincidence. I think that's one of the negatives of being rich and famous, people follow you EVERYWAR! Not that I'm rich and/or famous, but you know what I mean. Stalkers are not cool, dudes!
So, the drive back was a long one. Along the way, we stopped at a healing-water geo-physio-spring-thing, and had some (high sulphur content) water, which apparently is supposed to cure neurosis and obesity. I haven't seen a difference so far, maybe Guy is actually wrong about this. No offence Ismail.
Then, we got lost and went to some epic rock-tops with narrow corridors between tall rocks. I promise I will get pictures up in tomorrow's (bah fat chance!) post, you can see it all then. For now, MIND'S EYE!!!! Well, anyway, it was a really awesome location for freerunning and the like, pity we didn't bring any climbing gear. The views were also stunning.
The rest of the journey was pretty uneventful,. except for the fact that we got back at midnight, and my fencing equipment had been delivered!!! Awesome stuff! Obviously, my grandparents were completely dumbfounded, and my mum was complaining as to whether the lames were the right size, but whatever, I enjoyed unwrapping everything!
Today, we were visited by my uncle and his family (minus 1 cousin who had gone on a surfing camp with HIS HAIR CUT SHORT!!!!!), and my mum's prophecies of how I'm actually just like him is completely true... He just rips into everything and anything, much like me but of course in Polish. If I could tell you the things he said... Including his stories about fishing the ambassador to Equatorial Guinea out of trouble (he's a lawyer, see?) and about getting the Complete Works of Lenin delivered to his house (all 54 volumes). Indeed, it was class.
WOOOHOOO massive post! Finally done!

Czeching things out
So, I'm in Prague, spending most of the time either sleeping or walking around the city's Old Quarter... The architecture is incredible, All the buildings are huge and densely-packed but they still manage to look really beautiful. It's like Prague can't make up its mind, because you've got really modern silent-as-night trams and yet crumbling walls in the same picture frame.
Talking of pictures, they say each is worth a thousand words, so without further ado:
This is me, looking awesome (as always!)
This is also me, getting shot in the head by modern art.
Enough about me, this is some architecture!
Lost in translation, I guess.... "Hocus Pocus ...erm?"
Me again. W/ a big lascannon.
This is a cougar. Being taken for a walk in the wild territories of central Prague.
So, hope that effectively saved me a lot of writing. See you guys soon!

What terrible weather for a holiday...
Well, not really. The weather's terrible, I mean, it's literally identical to that in Cape Town at the moment, which is the exact opposite reason for coming here! So, we've pretty much been sitting at home eating (as you've gathered by now a vital part of traditional life), playing board games and table tennis, generally not going outside if we can avoid it. Which is a great pity, because there is so much to see and do...
Guess what kind of of a bombshell got dropped on me today!? We're going to Prague, tomorrow at 4am by road!!! What? Why do my parents never tell me about these things!?!?!?!?!?!?! This is madness, I'm trying to settle down and raise a family here, and instead I am going to Prague! Looking forward to it though, should be really fun.
Thanks fans, especially Lisa, you've managed to force me back onto my computer again! Although, of course, I'm still totally cool with blogging, I'm just scared of running out of subject matter. Well, you've all met my family, all you need now are some pictures. Which isn't ideal, as all there is to see at the moment is rain, ie the generic London/Cape Town photograph.
At the moment, I pass the time by (amongst other things) reading Asimov's stories... I've got a lovely volume of them, and I'm almost a third of the way through. Some of them are really legendary, I love Profession and Spell My Name With An S... They're all really good sci-fi stories with a very alternative take on society and the universe. I would highly recommend these to anyone who doesn't feel like they have a place in the universe. They'll make you even more uincertain :D
I've actually tried writing my own sci-fi short stories, but I'm a bit stuck for plots, you could say "waiting for inspiration"! I have this idea about a plot by the Americans to try and take over Russia, but they fail to do it because their bio-weapon is hidden in tomato ketchup, which the Russians don't eat with their traditional food! Well, I think it's a tad ironic... It's actually inspired by the debate we had as to whether to eat a highly traditional dish with ketchup or not... turns out it tasted much better with it!
Talking of sci-fi, I am being haunted by Super-Heavy Warhammer tanks... I want one! Screw the fact that they're pieces of plastic, they look. Freaking. Awesome!! Pity that for my collection it is not only expensive and unnecessary, but right now it is tactically redundant! This hobby is causing me headaches, but I still love it!
If you feel like learning something new, check out the International Marxist Tendency website (discovered by Andrew)... I love it, I wonder how many of you readers will! Well, I like to think of myself as a socialist, so it probably alludes to me more than it does to you. It's quite a (dare I say) funny website to read through, check out their "About Us" section. Don't worry guys, I'm not an extremist like that!
Talking of ante-capitalist literature, I'm going to ask our librarian if I can request a copy of Das Kapitall, by Karl Marx (!). I'll say something like, "Ma'am, my grandfather has the original and the Polish version, but it's a difficult text and I don't want to misinterpret anything."!! Let's see the look on her face... This is quite possibly the most anti-capitalist-mindset piece of literature ever! Well, as far as I know at any rate...
I have ordered lots of new fencing equipment too, and it should be arriving soon... I'm so excited (especially seeing as I'm not the one paying for it!)
Hah Ismail, no ripperness in here that I know of! :D
