Day starts (unfortunately) as early as a normal school one... luuus! Exeunt house meeting and rollcall to go slay some piano. I played Golliwog's Cakewalk in the Junior Classical, I thought I did lank averagely but turns out I just missed a Gold Diploma and thus won. Stayed behind to watch some more epic piano, found it funny how the Senior L&J finals were literally 2x Brubeck, 2x MacGregor, and 2x Gershwin. Of which 4 were the same pieces. Anyway, Sevi's playing was reasonably bordering on insane...
Then rush off to the Debating finals... We got to choose the proposition side, debating "THR the assassination of Osama bin Laden without trial". A rather disjointed hour later, we were up on stage, the debate being really close all he way through. Turns out we lost (reasonably narrowly) and I managed to get Best Speaker (Hoopla!), which is more points for Mallett. Awesome, I guess, considering that we were debating against virtually the three smartest people in the school. Kudos to Joe for handling the case so well in times of pressure...
Went back to the house, continued on my speech, went to see the art exhibition. This year, nothing there really jumped out at me though... Ever since James and Neil left, there's a certain element of "weirdness" and "flavour" that's missing... There was one James-esque photo of nested eyes, but that's pretty much it. No sketchbooks full of graffiti and Darth Vader, no mysterious cuddly cartoon aliens, no weird human hands coming out of random places... Daymn miss those good old days where the art exhibition gave you a real taste of demented minds at work.
Then, went and watched the Movement ie what they call dancing. There were so many people that we literally had to overflow into the Old Gym and watch from a screen. And it was packed as well! I was sitting in the corner with Ismail, making ripper noises. Witnessed some hectic fourfold nested bouncing; what a silly way to run the school, everyone just takes this idea way too far. If you don't have a seat, tough cookies, buddy, suck it up. Anyways, the movements were mostly really boring despite one or two good ones (Mallett amongst them of course). Again, I generally felt a bit let down. Two years ago, every single movement was of a far greater standard than all of these combined... Cringe, Eisteddfod standards are literally dropping every single year. Still proud of our guys though, they didn't an epic job.
Plays next, Mallett being the first. Take back what I said about matrics not acting, they can do it very well! Absolutely hilarious, especially the club scenes, with DJ Marais and the fake chicks. Once again, bar set used. I love how every single performance I watched (and from what I've heard, the ones I didn't as well) involved some form of stripping and something like doing push-ups with no shirt on/spandex. Apparently the adjudicators commented on that as well, but I wasn't around to hear it, because I was busy doing something else...
So, we get back to the house, okes are hanging around, but Rob (our conductor) isn't back from the play yet. So Nick, the exchange student, and I somehow end up getting into a drum battle. MOST FREAKING EPIC MOMENTS OF MY LIFE!!!! Relatively, I'm technically stronger but he can think on his feet more, and it made for an epic epic epic drum-off, although he bested me in the end. Everyone else was literally screaming their heads off cheering us on, okes were filming it, okes were dancing to the pumping bass, the energy was simply intense! We carried on for literally 20 minutes, and then Rob came in and we ran through our house songs. Everyone sang with such gusto and epic smiles on their faces... If we keep this up we can be serious contenders for the
As soon as someone puts a video up I will edit this post and link it. It is not to be missed (in my opinion).
I still have managed to go the entire day without finishing my speech (although I have done around 2/3rds already), but I'm finishing off the writing tonight so I will be ready for tomorrow morning. Also happening (at the same time; bad scheduling dammit!) are both my percussion sections, and from then onwards I'm pretty much free for the rest of the day... I guess I have no choice but to check out the Open Strings (lus) or do something fun (yay!).
Girls have been on my mind for a while now. updates on that front are really dismal: Blondie doesn't like me, H doesn't like me, EIG doesn't like me thaaat much... Damn, I feel like I've screwed up somewhere, but I didn't do anything wrong! That I know of, at any rate. I mean, how can you be awkward if the only time you ever talk is Facebook chat? Barring outright proposals, which I (thankfully) haven't got around to yet. How exactly have I been awkward? Ever? Sheesh, it's lank chilled. I seem to be achieving my end objective (to not get a girlfriend at this point in time) very well and consistently... I'm not even trying too hard, just the right amount. It still manages to go wrong somewhere, but I guess I'm happy for that anyway.
I'm also leaving on Thursday morning, and that means there's a whole lot of things I'll be missing over the holidays... Sorry to all those relying on me do be there, I unfortunately cannot :( I don't even have time to pack, I don't know how I'm going to do this. And I'm travelling by myself, via Dubai w/ 8 hour stop-over. Yay, my blog will become a Twitter feed.
We'll just have to wait and see how tomorrow goes. I'm so amped for the singing finals it's not even funny. After today, I know exactly what I'm doing... It seems so tame compared to our drum battle :)
DRUM OFF
