It's a little late, I know. Sorry. It's just that I got back from His People's at like midnight last night, so I thought, oh screw this, I can't make a post today. Plus, Guy and Andy were kind of enjoying the Warhammer battle we had (Andy more rolling dice with his "zen technique" and making "pew pew" noises than actually playing)... And then pancakes for dinner, yeah!
Actually, I'm writing this from the News Cafe at Joburg Airport (for lack of a Nando's within the duty-free area), about to eat a sandwich more expensive than that at the Bishops tuck shop. In about two hours I'll be jetting off to Dubai for the first time evar! Well, considering I'll be spending 8 hours at the airport there...
So, summary of yesterday, which was certainly a long and eventful day. In the morning, I was juggling two events simultaneously, rushing backwards and forwards between the music school and the chapel (odd place for a speech competition, but okay), trying to get all my events in. Didn't do amazingly in either, but got an Honours for my two percussion pieces and my speech. I loved the impromptu I did, it was the best one I've done so far. Ever. Basically, I was a show host telling my viewers about three "alternative" uses for a pencil. The best speech (and funniest too) was Nevarr's though. He did one about how Indians are taking over the world, complete with the head shaking and the accent... lolled very hard! Kudos to Joe for winning, by the way, with his epic quote: "In fact, I'm so drop-out I don't actually play sport at school. I just surf, and I only do that about once every four weeks or so". Enough said.
I was finished for the rest of the day, so i went and watched Senior Singing and Senior Strings, both of which were epic and very enjoyable to listen to. Following that, grabbed by the Achtung! frenzy (that now has quite literally everyone playing it) we had a massive couple of games before the final Eucharist. Open groups were very good, I always love the vibe of heavy rock. A well-deserved win by "The Jake Bennett and Four Other Guys Band", renamed just after they went onstage.
The evening was simply an epic of epic epicness. Rob was wearing an 18th-century suit, which the crowd absolutely adored. I was super-nervous, but I got over it after being knocked out by four Nigroids (Joe ate like 20 and is now immune to their effects) prior to the performance. It went really well though, I didn't screw up at all. Crowd loved us; but they didn't exactly hate everyone else.
Okes were good, okes were great, okes were lank average, and eventually, it was all over and Mr Mitchell was ready to announce the results. And guess what? WE WON THE SINGING OWL!!!!!!! People were crying and screaming and laughing and the cheering went on and on and on... And they didn't stop us, because that's the second Owl we've ever won, and the first singing one. EVER!!!! I have high hopes for my matric year, but it does also mean we have a lot to live up to.
So, moving on to other matters, I am now ready to board, so must finish up. I promise I'll write another one as soon as I get my hands on Dubai's free interneatz.
Oh yeah, thanks for the comments okes, especially the positive ones. You guys are legends.
Love this :)
